Unknown Device Installation Instructions

Unknown devices are determined by the ID of the device. Each device in the system has an ID or identifier. Even when a device is Unknown the system can read its ID. The ID or identifier can be called several names: Hardware ID, Device ID, PNP Device ID, Instance ID. The ID tells you exactly which device is present. There is also a location of the device. - In Device Manager, open the Unknown Device and view the Details tab.
Determine Device ID by OS:

- Open Components > Problem Devices
- Note the PNP Device IDs
- Match the IDs with the information below
Windows XP:

- Open the Properties for the Unknown Device
- On the Details tab, note the Device or Hardware ID
- Match the ID to the information below
