THE POSSIBILITIES ARE INFINITE

Microsoft Data Center Virtualization

Cloud Computing

Fujitsu and Microsoft deliver on the promise of agile private cloud computing through an interoperable hardware and software platform based on a standardized reference architecture. A Hyper-V Cloud from Fujitsu can greatly reduce time-to-value for virtualization infrastructure investments because it unites shared compute, storage, and network resources into a flexible, cost-effective solution based on off-the-shelf components. The reference architecture defines a common set of requirements to help IT consolidate hardware platforms into an environment that is more manageable, better used, and less consumptive.

Microsoft Hyper-V Cloud Fast Track

Microsoft® Hyper-V® Cloud Fast Track is a reference architecture for building private clouds that combines Microsoft software, consolidated guidance, and validated configurations with Fujitsu technology, including compute, network, and storage, as well as value-added software components.

Hyper-V Cloud Fast Track solutions provide a turnkey approach to delivering scalable, preconfigured, and validated infrastructure platforms for on-premises private cloud implementations. With local control over data and operations, IT can dynamically pool, allocate, secure, and manage resources for agile Infrastructure as a Service. Likewise, business units can deploy line-of-business applications with speed and consistency using self-provisioning (and decommissioning) and automated data center services in a virtualized environment.

Virtualization

Virtualization disconnects software from a specific piece of dedicated hardware. Physical resources such as servers and storage devices appear as single logical resources, and virtualization software determines which and how many of these physical devices to employ. This can result in increased utilization of computing assets, lowered power and cooling costs, easier lifecycle management, and less complex backup/disaster recovery.

Although many associate the word "virtualization" with just server virtualization, there are in fact many opportunities within the software stack to beneficially introduce virtualization concepts. Fujitsu currently offers solutions to address three such areas: server virtualization, storage virtualization, and application/desktop virtualization.

Server Virtualization

Most server virtualization software is based on the concept of a hypervisors creating and controlling Virtual Machines (VM's). A Virtual Machine is an individual bundle that contains both an application and its associated OS. Hypervisor software, loaded on the server bare metal, provides the ability to load one or more Virtual Machines onto the server, manage I/O calls, and perform other functions. Both Windows- and Linux-based Virtual Machines can co-exist on the same physical server.

It is worth noting that while loading multiple virtual servers onto fewer physical servers can produce an outstanding return on investment, it is not a panacea. Server virtualization can introduce increased network traffic congesting around a single destination point, creating response time delays. For some lightweight or infrequently used applications, the effect is minimal, but for others, such as transaction-based data base applications or outward facing web sites, virtualization must be used advisedly.

Our ServerView technology provides key capabilities for virtualization deployment. It permits insight into the physical characteristics of servers for optimal control and management. The newest ServerView component, Resource Coordinator, goes even further, allowing system administrators to use a single uniform view into virtualized and native loads, storage, and network switches across a large number of rack servers and blade chassis. Further, SVRC facilitates failover and/or CPU additions in less than 7 minutes and helps minimize hardware costs by requiring only one spare blade per chassis. SVRC also improves service levels by providing fully unattended failover of either native or virtualized deployments, including the automatic remapping of SAN and LAN connections.

Microsoft Hyper-V (R2)
Your way to Dynamic IT

http://ts.fujitsu.com/Resources/28/1432748315.gifBusinesses are under pressure to ease management and reduce costs while retaining and enhancing competitive advantages, such as flexibility, reliability, scalability, and security. The fundamental use of virtualization to help consolidate many servers on a single system while maintaining isolation helps address these demands. One of the main benefits of server consolidation with Microsoft Hyper-V is a lower total cost of ownership (TCO), not just from lowering hardware requirements but also from lower power, cooling, and management costs.

Moreover, business continuity – the ability to minimize both scheduled and unscheduled downtime – is getting more important. Hyper-V includes powerful business continuity features, such as clustering and live migration, enabling businesses to meet stringent uptime and response metrics avoiding time lost to routine functions, such as maintenance and unanticipated outages.

Hyper-V, together with system management solutions, such as Microsoft System Center, can help you realize the dynamic data center vision of providing self-managing dynamic systems and operational agility. With features like automated virtual machine reconfiguration, flexible resource control, and live migration, you can create a dynamic IT environment that uses virtualization to not only respond to problems, but also to anticipate increased demands.

  • Cost-effective server virtualization.
  • Maximum flexibility by moving running virtual machines from one server to another without any downtime.
  • Easy management of virtual machines.
  • Being prepared for unplanned outages by the clustering capabilities of virtual machines running on Hyper-V.
  • Homogenous software stack – from the virtualization layer over operating system and application to the management.

EASY Virtualization

For many large-scale companies server virtualization is the key to success in order to clearly reduce operational and energy costs and thus achieve savings of up to 80%. Server virtualization also helps to standardize administration, increase the availability of applications, to automate standard tasks and thus assist administrators in their daily work. Fujitsu and Microsoft offer a virtualization package in order for you to enter the world of virtualization. It is specially designed to meet the requirements of small and medium-sized companies: "EASY virtualization with Hyper-V” is based on proven, reliable PRIMERGY® servers and ETERNUS® storage products from Fujitsu, in conjunction with Microsoft products which enable our customers to benefit from all the advantages offered by server virtualization.
